In the mid 1980's, I was having a walk
near the spring of the river Telhuet, a small stream that flows through
Notre Dame de Gravenchon, Seine-Maritime, France before reaching the Seine.
A man, about the age
of my grand-father came to me and started talking about the war. He told me
that a USAF aircraft had been shot down by the Germans during the war not
far from ND de Gravenchon and that one of the survivors of the crash had
been hidden by French patriots in bushes surrounding the spring. Germans
troops drove on several occasions on the nearby road without suspecting the
presence of the enemy serviceman. |
