"I was a crew member of a B-17 shot down on 8
July 1944 at Ronchois par Gaillefontaine, S.I. near Neufchatel. I was helped
immediately by Albert Bienaimé (?). I stayed at his house at Ronchois for 5
days. Maquis forces then came nd took me to Toupray, where I stayed with
them for about 7 weeks, until Canadian troops arrived at this vicinity on
about 30 august. I was sent by them to Bayeux and from there by plane to UK.
When I
arrived at Toupray, I met Lt Joseph C. Dick of Rd#1 Graham Road, Cuyahoga
Falls, Ohio, RAF officer John Thoroughgood and another US pilot (Mustang)
with a name which sounded like “John Shannock”. I subsenquently lost track
of these people, but after I joined allied troops I met my pilot, Lt Sabin,
who is now in England.
While
at Toupray, I stayed several times at the home of Emile Seliel (Source
pronounces this “SOULIER” but insists on the above spelling). He lived close
to where I was staying. "
